Georgia has some great photographers. Despite being competitors, we all can learn a great deal from each other in one aspect or another. This is the third in a series of interviews with Atlanta area photographers. Evan Leavitt was another photographer that I found while sifting through Flickr. I was immediately captivated. If you are not a frequent reader of DIY Photography, then you are really missing out. I love how the site offers some really fun things to try out for next to little money. With as expensive as some of the photography gear is out there, sites like DIYP are gems! I caught a recent post of theirs about creating custom bokeh and just had to give it a shot. Read more »

If you are online as much as I am, my guess is that you have seen these coffee mugs floating around. These are Nikon AF-S 24-70mm Lens Thermos coffee cups. Normally I would be hesitant about purchasing one but a couple of weeks ago I gave in and pulled the trigger. This little sucker showed up yesterday and was really one of the coolest things to arrive in my mailbox as of late. Read more »
If you are like me, there are times when an exotic location or even professional studio is a luxury rather than something you have regular access to. Thankfully, you don’t always need an exotic location to get the type of shot you want. Sometimes a driveway is really all that you need. Read more »

This tutorial covers something that at first, seemed quite simple to me. When I was given the original photo to work with, I figured it was just a matter of correcting a minor blemish and then moving on. But I actually got a little frustrated here because I could not fix it right off the bat. In fact, I had closed Photoshop and planned to come up with some excuse about not being able to fix it. Rather than admit defeat, my pride and ego took over, combined with stubbornness, and the result was a corrected photo. Read more »

Whether you like it or not textures have become a frequently utilized tool with photography and post-processing. Everyone and their mother is selling them, too. From the horribly outrageously priced packages upwards of $200 to the more reasonably priced packs (like…ahem…mine) they are everywhere. Most recently I purchased my first set. Read more »

Sadly, up until a few days ago I did not know who Robert King was. Catching a link on Facebook to watch his documentary, I was captivated. It is a truly fascinating journey and I found myself continually imagining myself in his shoes, wondering how I would react… wondering how I would survive…wondering how long before I would give up and return home. As touted on the official website for the film, it is a wonderful documentary that spans 15 years and 3 wars. I am thankful for documentaries such as these that capture what goes on behind the lens. Powerful stuff. Read more »

One thing I have always enjoyed was seeing what people do with the resources that I put out there for them to use. Be it textures, actions, frames, brushes, etc., it is inspiring to see how they get used. To give everyone a more central place to share their creations, I created a group on Flickr: Dubtastic’s Textures & Frames. If have used any of my resources, and have not already done so, go drop them into the group pool. I would love to see what you have come up with. Also, to celebrate the group, I am releasing 5 new hi-res grunge textures for free. Download them after the jump. Read more »

Evan Leavitt was another photographer that I found while sifting through Flickr. I was immediately captivated. Truly talented at capturing and preserving what is around him, he is able to take what many pass by on a routine basis and turn it into something interesting and worthy of paying attention to. A skillful eye and on-point processing have produced a body of work that I am envious of. After following his work for some time now, it just seemed perfect to throw a few questions his way. I frequently am asked what inspires me and where I look when I am stuck in a creative rut. Which got me thinking today about starting up a more regular feature here for those artists that inspire me. I have spent countless hours looking at the work of these artists and used it as fuel to keep me going when the ideas just have not been coming as quickly as I would have liked them to. Read more »
