2007 Juried Photography Show at Arts Clayton

This Thursday was another treat for me as I attended the opening reception for the 2007 Juried Photography Contest at Arts Clayton. From the Arts Clayton site:
“Best of Show artist from our 2007 Juried Art Competition, Kathy Poucher expresses beauty, peace, contentment and thanksgiving through her works in oil. Through these works she hopes to inspire the viewer to consider and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us; the One responsible for it all and the gratitude she feel for being a part of His grand plan.
Every October, Arts Clayton proudly participates in the Atlanta Celebrates Photography Festival and hosts the Annual Juried Photography Show and Competition. Now in its fourth year, photographers submit their very best work to the annual competition. Our jury panel, led by Jim Lewchuk, selected 56 photographs from over 125 entries to be a part of the show and final judging process. In addition to monetary awards for Best of Show, and first, second and third places, the Best of Show winner is purchased every year to be included in Arts Clayton’s permanent collection. Prize winners will also be invited to participate in the Annual Arte Gras Show & Sale, held in conjunction with the Arte Gras Gala in February 2008.
This year’s show features the photography of:
Laura Ahr, Scott Ash, Joe Astacio, Anne Berry, Sarah Clay, Lowell Crawford, Ida Daniel, Lee Duncan, Marcia Fisher, Linda Foltz, Lance Foster, Johnnie Ann Gaskill, Derek Jezcx, Gary Greaves, John Green, Cindy Keen, Tom Kettles, L Major, Larry McDonald, Lynn McMeans, Mike Middendorf, Lanny Milbrandt, Jason Morrison, Julie Nestor, John Nowak, Daniel Osborne, Sandra Salter, Ray Salvatore, Morisca Vanessa Valdez, Dave Wells
This year’s exhibit may be viewed by artist at the Artist A-Z page.
Our judges - Perry Dilbeck, Jennifer Julian, Gordon Kilgore, and Judy Kuniansky - will perform the difficult task of choosing the winners of this year’s show. Arts Clayton strives every year to assemble a group of judges with backgrounds and styles as varied as the artists and artwork we display. This year is no exception.

So how did I do? I managed to pull out an “Honorable Mention” award for my photograph entitled “Free“. I was asked by a family member if I was disappointed at not winning BOS, 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. I was not disappointed in the least. The jury selected 56 out of 125 entries and 4 of my photos were selected. That was a triumph in itself. The work was astonishing. I really enjoyed seeing all of the talent on display. So I was proud to have been awarded the “Honorable Mention”. Arts Clayton is a great place for art and I am always pleased to be associated with their events and exhibits in any way possible.

Yea, I always try to go in without the expectation of winning. I am more excited about seeing other’s work rather than what I might win.

As a judge in this event, I thought that photo was wonderful. Love the angle, and the BW really made it. Nice job and hope to see you particapate next year. - Jim Lewchuk

Thanks Jim… Glad you found your way here, also. I am always pleased anytime that I win and appreciate the kind words about the photo. I have enjoyed the activities at Arts Clayton as they are always top notch. I feel that they help stretch me creatively as well, which is always a good thing.
