I Have Been Phirebrushed

Posted in General Banter by dub

I submitted a few photographs to Phirebrush, which were accepted, loved, wrapped in golden code, and placed on display for the viewing public along with other fine talented folks.  Stop by and see Issue #57 for yourself.

One of the best features of Phirebrush, is that I am continually inspired by the talent they locate on a regular basis.  I find artists through their site that I would not have been exposed to without them.  Very worthwhile project and if it is not a daily visit for you, shame, shame…

Lost: Season 4 Promo

Posted in General Banter by dub

OK, I know it isn’t photography, but who can deny the mystical pull of this series? Season 4 is just around the corner, folks. The wife and I just finished watching season 3 on DVD last night. I would love to hear your thoughts and theories on what the master plan is.

A Filtered Love

Posted in Reviews by dub

In my quest for constant submission rejection by the likes of JPG Magazine, I have written a brief article on my love of the Cokin lens filters. When coupled with the Canon A-1 and black & white film, I am continually amazed and pleased with the quality of the shots taken. Take a minute to read over the article and let me know your thoughts. Vote yes if you are really crazy.

Boogie’s Second Book

Posted in Art News by dub

powerHouse Books is pleased to announce the December 2007 release of Boogie

Born and raised in Belgrade, Serbia, Boogie began photographing rebellion and unrest during the civil war that ravaged his country during the 1990s. Though he never planned to leave his homeland, a green card won in the national lottery brought him to the United States in 1998. Boogie settled in Brooklyn, where he resumed his photographic pursuit of those living on the fringe, outside the law, in the margins of society. Selected by Photo District News as Best Photography Book of 2006, his first book, It’s All Good (Miss Rosen Editions/powerHouse Books), documents the gangsters, crackheads, and junkies of New York City’s most notorious neighborhoods.

Whether on exhibit at Paris Photo or L’Eclaireur Tokyo, featured in Nike campaigns or Shellac catalogues, in prestigious magazines or cutting-edge websites, Boogie’s work continues to reach diverse audiences with his precise blend of incisive investigation and aggressive aestheticism. Digging beneath the surface of everyday life has become this self-taught photographer’s mission. Over the years he has amassed an archive no one, not even himself, has ever seen in full. Because he never prints contact sheets, every trip back to the negatives yields new and untold treasures. Boogie, his second monograph, is a limited edition of 500 signed and numbered slipcased books with a print. This collection of some of the photographer’s most personal images has been gathered during his travels through life with camera in hand.

Review: Overnightprints.com

Overnightprints.com

If you are anything like me, your budget for self-promotion and other marketing relating items is smaller than it should be, or perhaps non-existent. With that said, many of us turn to the internet in hopes of finding “that great deal” or wonderful company to swoop in and rescue us. While those companies are rare, what is plentiful are companies to chose from to evaluate. Over the past year I have used Overnightprints.com for a few projects and want to offer my thoughts for those who would like to try them but wanted to know what others thought first. Read more »

East Side

East Side by Dub

This was a photo taken at the old College Park jail. There were two rows of cells, divided by east and west. At the end of the east side wall was a small older radio. Just caught my eye. Both interesting and sad at the same time.

Because I enjoy self-infliction of pain, I have submitted this photo for rejection to JPG Magazine. I keep thinking that one day, one of my photos might sneak into an issue. However, looking at the talent there, I am not quite so sure that will happen.
