Sketchy Situations: Getting back to drawing

Over the Thanksgiving break, I was afforded the opportunity to actually sit down and draw something. Not create something for a client or for work, but to freely draw something that I wanted to. Take about a relaxing and freeing exercise. I first started with something simple, especially considering that I had not sat down to draw something worthwhile in a matter of years. Several years ago I purchased an art desk (AKA: dust collecting desk) and a plethora of supplies with the high hopes of once again venturing into traditional media rather than solely relying on the computer to be creative. It didn’t pan out. When the chance presented itself over the holiday break to put pencil to paper, I was more than thrilled.
This was my warm up exercise:

Yesterday, I once again sat down to draw. Amazing, yet true.

During the holiday sketching party, I also broke out the 19″x24″ sized paper and sketched a magnolia. That was one the of the largest sketches I have done in quite some time. It was great though, and was also a confidence builder. I do not want to get over-ambitious and begin sketching daily, posting here, etc. I have humble plans which include sketching at least once a week. In college, I felt as if I could draw anything. Much of that confidence level came from actually drawing on a daily basis, so I was not as rusty as I am today.
But I will get there…
