Salute: Civil War Reenactments

Recently I went to a local event here in Georgia which also featured Civil War reenactments. There is a swirl of controversy over the events lately. There is a group of people who feel that the reenactments represent racism and during this political year, there is another group who has contested the historical significance of the land itself. All that aside, I enjoyed being there as a photographer.
After the battle was over, the crowd of spectators began to walk away. Many of the reenactors called the group back for a “salute”. They marched in front of the audience, stood at attention, and fired off their weapons in a salute to us who watched them.
The image above was a small group of soldiers who actually stopped right in front of me. I was very pleased with my location and fired off several shots with my Nikon & Canon. I usually run directly toward processing the photos with a sepia tone but opted for a little different direction. All in all I was pleased with the vintage film type effect applied and felt it helped add some personality that would have been lost with sepia toning.
The remainder of photos that I took, which were worth showing, can be found through my Flickr account. I also have other sets available for those interested in this type of photography.

Love that effect. I used a similar effect on an old bl/wh photo to soften it. Hadn’t thought to use it on a more recent photo. Great job!
