Congratulations Jason! This is one of the best photos I've seen in a long time. Having worked at the site of Jefferson Davis' capture at the end of the Civil War, I certainly have had my own experiences with reenactors. This is simply an iconic image of Americana at its best!

Congrats #1.... this is #3. Nice shot. Like you, I was totally floored when I got the email last week. People ask me how I get "those shots" and I say "Just by walking around". Which means I usually have a camera with me most of the time. I've been doing the Project365 since January, and have had the most fun with it.

"how do you go and get these photos"

Basically, that is it in a nutshell.

There is a local Flickr group here in South Atlanta that meets on a regular basis, for model shoots, photo strolls, and other events. Since photography is part of my creative outlet, I would make time for it anyway, but the group really helps and they are all really cool people.

I just try to go out and shoot when I can at events that I am interested in or locations that I think are cool.

Hope that helps. =]

Congrats, dub! As I'm very new to photography, how do you go and get these photos. I mean, do you say, "self, tomorrow I'm heading down to such-and-such and no matter what I'm shootin' for 2 hours" or do you look through the local papers for events going on, etc. Got any tips for a brother on getting events/people/places captured, or am I making this harder than it is...

:) thx!
