Custom Shaped Bokeh

If you are not a frequent reader of DIY Photography, then you are really missing out.  I love how the site offers some really fun things to try out for next to little money.  With as expensive as some of the photography gear is out there, sites like DIYP are gems!  I caught a recent post of theirs about creating custom bokeh and just had to give it a shot. Driveway Headshots: Making the Best of Location

Posted in How To, Photography, Projects, Resources, Videos by dub | Tags: , , , , , , , ,

If you are like me, there are times when an exotic location or even professional studio is a luxury rather than something you have regular access to.  Thankfully, you don’t always need an exotic location to get the type of shot you want.  Sometimes a driveway is really all that you need. The Breaking Point

During a recent shoot with the fine and talented folks of South Atlanta Flickr I had an idea for an image I wanted to create. This was not that image. What started in one direction ended up somewhere completely different as if the car started to steer itself. But I liked where we ended up so I won’t complain. Read more »

“Bring the Rain” | 52.10

So it is safe to say I have been slacking with this 52 weeks thing.  No really, slacking.  It has been nearly 3 months since my last weekly shot, but you see, I have good reason.  Back in January my wife and I welcomed our second daughter into the world and life has not been the same ever since.  The free time I get is used very wisely and naturally paying gigs come before my personal projects.  Still, this project provided a much needed outlet for me, something I have been missing quite a bit. Baby Photography Workflow

I am using the word “workflow” here as if I have all of this figured out.  That my friends, would be a lie!  Ha!  You would think photographing your own daughter would be easier than photographing someone else’s, but I found it to be equally challenging to say the least. It was challenging for me but a great lesson as a photographer on how to work with…well…difficult clients.  Read more »

On a trip to Sanford, Florida, I had really been wanting to try my hand at some photos of the old piers at night.  They just captivate me.  Since our car was already crammed full of stuff for our daughters, I really had no room for a tripod.  So I just had to wing it. Read more »

Portrait of a Cancer Survivor

This is Nana. Nana is my wife’s grandmother, however, she feels much like my own.  I can say a lot about her, all positive, as she is incredibly inspiring.  Having gone through a hip replacement, she was still dancing at the reception at our wedding.  Since then, she has battled with more surgeries and even fought breast cancer, having won that battle as well.  One of the reasons she is so inspiring is not simply because of her victories, but how her head was held high during the fight. Wifey Got Her Hur Did

As you may or may not know, my wife and I now have our second daughter.  Which means what we want takes a back seat.  So when my wife got a chance to get her hair done, I was really stoked to see the outcome.  So much so I begged her to let me take a quick shot. Read more »

Model Shoot with Bonnie

So today on the way home, I realized that for this site, I rarely post any of my work.  Not really sure why it hit me or why that is the truth, but it is.  So why not change that? From here on out I will do my best to inject some of my personal/non-client work here in addition to the resources and other madness that is going on. Read more »
