If you are not a frequent reader of DIY Photography, then you are really missing out.  I love how the site offers some really fun things to try out for next to little money.  With as expensive as some of the photography gear is out there, sites like DIYP are gems!  I caught a recent post of theirs about creating custom bokeh and just had to give it a shot. Driveway Headshots: Making the Best of Location

Posted in How To, Photography, Projects, Resources, Videos by dub | Tags: , , , , , , , ,

If you are like me, there are times when an exotic location or even professional studio is a luxury rather than something you have regular access to.  Thankfully, you don’t always need an exotic location to get the type of shot you want.  Sometimes a driveway is really all that you need. During the month of July, Arts Clayton Gallery will be running an exhibit called “Untitled, Unthemed, Uncatalogued” which just happens to be my show!  On June 26th, with a truckload of work, I helped hang the show.  What photographer would hang a show and not get some photos of the process, right?  I thought a little time lapse might be in order.  Check it out! Nikon D90 Video Testing

Great, your DSLR shoots video.  Who cares?  I thought you were a photographer?  All of these things ran through my mind the minute I heard that some DSLRs were now equipped with video.  Who would really care about that if they were a serious photographer, right?  Wouldn’t you want to spend your money on something that went more toward improving the camera than adding in something extra like video?  Well, up until a few days ago I was a skeptic, and that is putting it mildly. DIY Dual Speedlight Rig

Posted in How To, Resources by dub | Tags: , , , , , , ,

My business partner and I had been on enough shoots to know that we could easily wear out a Speedlight during a single shoot.  Changing batteries, while it doesn’t take too long, can eat up time when you are losing light.  Additionally, there were plenty of times when it was not practical to use two Speedlights because we wanted the light in the same spot.  Everything is setup to be as quick and efficient as possible.  So when we opted for a DIY dual Speedlight rig, we new found the answer to a lot of problems. The Breaking Point

During a recent shoot with the fine and talented folks of South Atlanta Flickr I had an idea for an image I wanted to create. This was not that image. What started in one direction ended up somewhere completely different as if the car started to steer itself. But I liked where we ended up so I won’t complain. Read more »

“Bring the Rain” | 52.10

So it is safe to say I have been slacking with this 52 weeks thing.  No really, slacking.  It has been nearly 3 months since my last weekly shot, but you see, I have good reason.  Back in January my wife and I welcomed our second daughter into the world and life has not been the same ever since.  The free time I get is used very wisely and naturally paying gigs come before my personal projects.  Still, this project provided a much needed outlet for me, something I have been missing quite a bit. Baby Photography Workflow

Posted in How To, Photography, Projects, Resources by dub | Tags: , , , , , , , ,

I am using the word “workflow” here as if I have all of this figured out.  That my friends, would be a lie!  Ha!  You would think photographing your own daughter would be easier than photographing someone else’s, but I found it to be equally challenging to say the least. It was challenging for me but a great lesson as a photographer on how to work with…well…difficult clients.  Read more »
